A word from your Pastor

Brother Frank asked that the following email exchange that Bruce shared with him be shared with the church as information and encouragement to the church family that the turmoil may possibly come to an end. It is the President of MBC responding to an email to him from a Director of Missions of a church who has asked him how to bring a motion to end the lawsuit.
Brother Frank has called Phil to assure him he would be happy to second such a motion or speak to it at the convention as needed.
“Dear Bruce,
I have been contacted by one of the churches in my association. They would like to make a motion at the Missouri Baptist Convention annual meeting that will be held in Raytown. Their motion would have the effect of bring the lawsuits to a close – but allowing our convention to defend itself in court if continued legal action is taken against us.
I told them that I would contact you to ask for your advice. Can you tell me if this action will be pursued by others in our convention? They might not pursue if others do. If no one has plans to pursue this action, what would be the proper course of action for them to take? Would they bring their motion to the executive board or to the convention at large from the floor or through a convention committee?
I appreciate your advice in this matter.

“Hello, Phil.
Thanks for this heads-up. Feel free to quote me early & often that I join them in the hopes of putting all this behind us. In my personal opinion, the Lord has not blessed our convention’s efforts to violate 1st Corinthians 6:1-8. So, to me, the sooner we humbly fall back into compliance with the Word of God, the sooner the Lord will restore His mighty Hand of blessing.
I would recommend that they formulate their motion and have someone with a legal mind read it over. My good friend and attorney (member of Canaan Baptist Church) might be able to assist them in establishing the final draft of their wording. I have taken the liberty of copying Attorney Feltz for your convenience. Of course, they should feel every freedom to seek out any other advice they wish.
Further, they may wish to contact my lifelong and trusted friend, Rev. Frank Whitney, dynamic pastor of Union Hills Baptist Church, in Holtz Summit, MO. He would be able to give them a great deal of “horse sense.” Frank is a very wise and measured man; he would prove to be very helpful for them. Again, for your convenience, I am copying him in this email as well.
Faithfully,
Bruce McCoy, D. Min.

I am very much in support of ending these lawsuits. When I think of all the money that has been spent on something that goes against God’s word it almost turns my stomach. I think we will be rewarded in some way if we go back to His word and follow it very closely.
