What We Believe

Standing firmly on the eternal truths of God's Holy Word

At Union Hill we stand firmly on the eternal truths revealed in God’s Holy Word. Our beliefs are deeply rooted in the core tenets of the Christian faith, and we strive to live out these convictions in our daily lives as a community and individually.

The Bible: God’s inspired and authoritative word

We believe the Bible, both the Old and New Testaments, is the divinely inspired and inerrant Word of God. It is God’s written revelation of Himself to us. It is our ultimate authority for faith and practice, providing us with a perfect treasure of divine instruction and guidance for every aspect of life.

Scripture References: Psalm 19:7-10; Romans 15:4; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Hebrews 4:12.

God: The eternal, triune Creator and Redeemer

We believe in one living and true God, eternally existing as three distinct persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit. He is the Creator, Redeemer, Preserver, and Ruler of the universe, infinite in holiness, power, knowledge, and love.

Scripture References: Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19; John 14:6-13; Ephesians 4:6.

Jesus Christ: God incarnate, our Savior and Lord

We believe that Jesus Christ is God the Son. He is God and has and will always exist. His earthly life began as a baby conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, perfectly revealing God’s will. Through His substitutionary and atoning death on the cross and triumphant resurrection, He provided redemption for humanity from sin.

Scripture References: Matthew 1:18-25; John 1:1; John 3:16; Romans 5:8; 1 Corinthians 15:3-4.

Salvation: By grace through faith

We believe that salvation is a free gift from God, offered to all who repent (turn to God and away from their sins and efforts to earn God’s love) and place their faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. It is by grace alone, through faith alone, in Christ alone, and is not a result of human works or merit. Salvation is a relationship with Jesus that begins when we repent and believe and continues throughout our life as the Holy Spirit transforms us into people more like Jesus. As we follow Jesus we grow more like Him but we will only be made perfect on the day of Christ Jesus.

Scripture References: Mark 1:14, John 3:16; Acts 2:38; Romans 10:9-10; Ephesians 2:8-9, Philippians 1:6

People: God’s Image Bearers

We believe that every person is made in the image of God and loved by God. God’s desire is that everyone would understand and receive the gospel and then be part of a local church where they can worship and serve God.

Scripture References: Genesis 1:26-27; 2 Peter 3:9; 1 Corinthians 12:12-26

The Church: The body of Christ

We believe that Union Hill Baptist Church is a local congregation of baptized Christians. Our church’s purpose is to love God, love our community, and make disciples.

Scripture References: Matthew 22:34-40, Matthew 28:16-20

Baptism and the Lord’s Supper: Ordinances of the church

We believe Christian baptism involves the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. The Lord’s Supper is a symbolic act by which Christians remember Christ’s death and anticipate His return.

Scripture References: Matthew 28:19-20; Romans 6:3-5; 1 Corinthians 11:23-29.

Evangelism and missions: Sharing the good news

We believe it is the duty of every Christian and church to make disciples of all nations. We are motivated by God’s love to share the Gospel through our words and actions.

Scripture References: Matthew 28:18-20; Acts 1:8; Romans 10:13-15.
